Tedra Cobb Challenges Stefanik To Protect Medicare and Medicaid for Future Generations.
[August 2, 2018] Canton, NY– 53 years ago this week, President Lyndon B. Johnson, a Democrat, signed into law Medicare and Medicaid to protect access to healthcare for America’s seniors and other vulnerable citizens.
Republicans in Congress are committed to shutting down Medicare to pay for more corporate giveaways and bailouts for America’s richest 10%. That’s wrong.
Tedra Cobb said, “Elise Stefanik has personally participated in plans to shut down Medicare as we know it and send that money to speculators on Wall Street. Just last year she personally voted to make Medicare a voucher program and cut millions from New York’s Medicaid. (H. Con. Res. 71)
“As a mother and daughter, I know that Medicare is an important safety net for our aging parents and I want that safety to be there for my kids, and yours,” said Cobb.
At a public forum held in April in Moreau, Stefanik sided with the pharmaceutical industry over the pleas of a woman asking for her for the life saving drugs her husband needs and their family can not afford. When asked if she would support legislation allowing Medicare to negotiate prescription drug prices the Congresswoman said no. Moreau Forum via Post Star
“Understanding Elise Stefanik’s voting record in Congress is easy: follow the money. She has taken hundreds of thousands of dollars from insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies and lobbyists who profit off the Medicare system. They want higher prices and that’s their prerogative, but the people paying the bills should have someone in Congress who sides with them. Our seniors and families deserve a representative who will fight for the programs that keep us safe, alive and financially secure. That is exactly what I have been doing and what I will continue to do in Washington,” Cobb concluded.
