NY 21: Tedra Cobb Challenges Stefanik to Break Silence on Sexist Cyber Bullying
Canton, New York, December 13, 2017 – Local businesswoman and former St. Lawrence County Legislator Tedra Cobb this morning sent a letter to Rep. Stefanik’s office challenging her to publicly denounce President Trump’s sexist attack on New York’s top female elected official, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand.
Following Senator Gillibrand’s announcement that Congress should investigate allegations into claims of sexual harassment committed by the President, she was viciously attacked with the following tweet from Trump:
“Lightweight Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a total flunky for Chuck Schumer and someone who would come to my office “begging” for campaign contributions not so long ago (and would do anything for them), is now in the ring fighting against Trump. Very disloyal to Bill & Crooked-USED!”
Tedra Cobb publicly defended Stefanik on social media when fellow Democrat Steve Krieg called her “a little girl.”
“As you must know by now, this morning, President Trump used Twitter to demean your colleague, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, with degrading vulgarity that he has never used to describe men.
When you were the the subject of sexist remarks, I spoke out immediately. Now, it’s your turn to stand up to sexism in public office. This is not a partisan issue, but a matter of basic decency and common sense.
As a Congresswoman, you have the responsibility to hold all elected officials to the highest standard of respect and civility. This is the time to speak out and to stand up for women. Senator Gillibrand’s constituents, and your constituents, expect it.”
