From Staff to Supervisor - Taking the Leadership Step

 

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Define key words – communication, motivation and morale - and identify what they mean to the organization and how they are essential tools for supervisors
  • Explore the expectations of, and changes in, the relationships and roles of a new supervisor
  • Assess and clarify the values and strengths they have as leaders through a Leadership and Motivation Self-assessment
  • Be able to give on-target instructions to ensure that delegation leads to success
  • Identify four communication styles and recognize opportunities for motivating others and creating an effective team
  • Learn how to prepare for a feedback situation and the steps of giving feedback with tact and skill
  • Recognize three techniques to confronting negative behavior and coaching difficult staff in order to turn the performance problem into a performance success
  • Know their Style Under Stress and formulate a plan to stay positive when the going gets rough

Outcomes:

Through personal assessment and analysis, lecture, practice, and discussion, participants will learn how to successfully move into a supervisory position through motivating staff, communicating effectively, managing daily performance and giving and receiving feedback.

New Supervisors have challenges and opportunities ahead of them. This interactive training will give new supervisors the skills to be successful in their jobs and to be leaders in the workplace. Participants will walk away with an understanding of the expectations of their new role as supervisor and how to meet those head on. They will learn skills to motivate their staff including delegating, giving feedback to managing performance, and communicating to create an effective team.
