Managing Performance Through Giving and Receiving Feedback

Learning Objectives:

Participants will:

  • Identify the need for daily performance management and the positive long-term benefit for individuals, supervisors and the organization
  • Describe the barriers to successfully giving or receiving feedback and formulate a plan to overcome those barriers
  • Prepare for a feedback situation through following the steps of giving and receiving feedback in a professional way
  • Practice techniques for dealing with difficult staff in order to turn the performance problem into a performance success
  • Assess individual communication styles and identify how these create barriers and opportunities for effective communication and positive performance in the worksite
  • Recognize three techniques to get people to open up: supportive communication, active listening and non-verbal communication

Outcomes:

Skills learned include: implementing daily performance management, active listening, nonverbal and verbal communication, communicating productively, giving and receiving feedback, coaching, and motivational techniques.
